But there’s so much to talk about, and even better, there’s more left in the world to discover. There’s a lot that I’d like to talk about in this review that are spoilers so, I won’t. This is a book that rewards close reading and paying attention. There’s lost magical artifacts, supernatural powers, and a wild magic that I loved. The fate of an empire, if not a world, is at stake. There is travel to many lands, some mystical, some mundane. The Ruin of Kings is an alternating first- and close third-person point of view narrative. He may hold the key to destroying the very empire his family helped create. And there might just be more to Kihrin than simply being a long lost prince. Along the way, Kihrin battles wizards, witches, demons, lizard people, and his own family. Oh, and the island is being watched by a massive dragon. Because I hate EVERYTHING about this book, except the title and cover art lol. So I'm asking you guys, if you've read this book, did you enjoy it? What aspects about it did you like? I need to know if I'm just being harsh and judgemental or that I'm not crazy and people are just being too kind in the reviews. Frankly, I find these comparisons to be insulting to those authors lol. But I'm confused, because all the ratings and reviews I've seen on it are surprisingly positive and the little description blurb even says the author's world-building is equivalent to Brandon Sanderson and her writing style is on par with Patrick Rothfuss. I didn't think it was possible to HATE a book as much as I do this one, but it's easily the absolute worst fantasy novel I've ever read in my life. Hi all! I've been struggling to get through this book for a few months by this point and I'm only 55% through it.
